A tragic incident occurred in Brazil where a couple celebrating their daughter’s fourth birthday passed away in a scorching hotel bathtub after a night of revelry. Jeferson Luiz Sagaz, 37, and Ana Carolina Silva, 41, had enjoyed festivities at a food park and a nightclub before checking into the Dallas Motel in São José, Santa Catarina state.
The couple failed to collect their daughter the next day, prompting concerned family members to contact the authorities. Subsequently, the lifeless bodies of Jeferson and Ana were found in the motel bathroom. Investigations revealed that they had lost consciousness in a bathtub filled with 50°C water while a space heater was emitting heat in the room.
A toxicology report indicated elevated alcohol levels and traces of cocaine in their systems. The Chief Medical Examiner, Andressa Boer Fronza, determined that both deaths resulted from exogenous poisoning, leading to heatstroke, severe dehydration, thermal collapse, organ failure, and ultimately death.
Despite undergoing multiple forensic tests, investigators concluded that the couple’s demise was due to heat exposure, ruling out other possible causes such as electric shock, drowning, carbon monoxide poisoning, or foul play. Known for being devoted parents and sociable individuals, the couple had no history of violence.
Family members disputed claims that Ana Carolina was a regular drug user, suggesting a potential involuntary ingestion of cocaine. Authorities speculated that their physical conditions, combined with alcohol and drugs, might have intensified the lethal effects. Tragically, their daughter is now orphaned following the birthday celebration that turned into a devastating event.
In a separate incident, Alexandra Săsărman was discovered deceased in a jacuzzi on her 22nd birthday at her family’s cabin. She had suffered a fatal cardiac arrest, possibly triggered by the high water temperature.
