M5 Crash Victim Honored by Grieving Family

The grieving family of a victim of a tragic M5 crash recently honored the memory of the deceased individual, identified as Mihai Florescu, 39, from Plymouth. Mihai lost his life in a fatal four-vehicle accident in Devon on September 18. His devastated wife, Laura, expressed profound sadness at the untimely loss of her husband, describing him as a dear family member and friend who departed too soon, leaving a significant void in their lives.

Following the collision involving a Volkswagen Transporter, a Land Rover Discovery, a Kia Creed, and Mihai’s Toyota Prius, emergency responders arrived at the scene to discover the aftermath of the incident. The driver of the Transporter, a man in his 40s, was apprehended on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been released pending further investigation.

In the wake of the crash, several individuals were hospitalized, and the closure of the M5 in both directions resulted in significant disruptions and delays. Another separate three-vehicle collision near Junction 28 earlier that evening caused serious injuries to a driver in his 60s, prompting National Highways to dispatch specialized contractors to address the situation.

Devon and Cornwall Police reported ongoing road closures following the two serious multi-vehicle collisions on the M5 southbound, emphasizing the need for patience from motorists during recovery and investigative efforts. Superintendent Joe Mathews expressed sympathy for those affected by the incidents and acknowledged the challenges faced by emergency services in managing the complex situations and aiding stranded individuals.

Throughout these difficult circumstances, the collaborative efforts of emergency responders and law enforcement have been instrumental in managing the aftermath of the tragic events on the M5.
