The family of a father who is in critical condition in Turkey following a scooter accident has been advised to travel to the country to bid their final farewells. John Kearney, aged 64, had gone on a holiday with friends to İçmeler in Marmaris in September. Unfortunately, on his way back to the hotel on Tuesday evening, he fell off the rented scooter he was riding, sustaining a severe head injury.
He was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where he is currently fighting for his life. His daughter Joanna Kearney recounted the emotional phone call she received informing her of the incident. According to her, two days after the incident, the family was instructed to fly to Turkey as medical staff were planning to disconnect John’s life support machine.
Joanna, along with her uncle and friends, traveled to Turkey to be by her father’s side, facing challenges due to the language barrier. Despite initial restrictions, she was eventually allowed to visit her father in the hospital. The family is struggling to comprehend the situation and express concerns about medical expenses and the uncertainty of the outcome.
Furthermore, Joanna highlighted that her father’s insurance company might not cover the hospital bills as he was not wearing a helmet during the accident, noting that helmets were not provided with the scooter rental. The extent of John’s injuries remains unknown until the brain swelling subsides.
In an effort to cover John’s medical costs and potentially bring him back home to Merseyside, the family initiated a fundraising campaign. To support the cause, donations can be made through a dedicated link.
