Four individuals lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries during a shooting incident that occurred in Mississippi early on Saturday, as confirmed by local authorities. The shooting transpired on a primary street in the town of Leland, as mentioned by Mayor John Lee, who noted the increased activity in the town due to Leland High School’s homecoming game against Charleston High School. The perpetrator is reportedly still at large, with the mayor expressing deep sorrow over the tragic event on Facebook and announcing the cancellation of a scheduled block party for safety reasons.

According to Mayor Lee’s statement to CBS News, four of the wounded individuals were airlifted to nearby medical facilities, although their current medical status remains undisclosed. Law enforcement has not made any arrests in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing. Additionally, there were reports of a separate shooting incident in Heidelberg, Mississippi, on Friday night where two individuals were fatally shot at the high school premises, and at least one more person sustained injuries, as per WDAM reports.

Heidelberg’s Mayor Robert Barnett assured the community of Heidelberg that the city would collaborate fully with the school district and the sheriff’s department to pursue the individual responsible for the tragic incident. Mayor Barnett emphasized the commitment to upholding the law to prevent such occurrences in Heidelberg, emphasizing that the town remains a safe place overall. Heidelberg and Leland are located three hours apart.
