“Family Sues U.S. Government Over Fatal Shooting”

A family has taken legal action against the U.S. government and immigration officials in a wrongful death lawsuit following the killing of Renee Good, a 37-year-old woman, by an immigration officer during a federal operation in Minneapolis. The lawsuits were filed by Becca Good, Renee’s partner, and Brent Ganger, her brother. The U.S. Justice Department has not yet responded to requests for comment on the legal proceedings.

Renee Good, a mother of three, was fatally shot on January 7 while participating in protests against immigration raids in the city. According to Becca Good, Renee stopped their car on a street to show support for neighbors during an immigration enforcement action. A bystander video captured the incident, showing Renee Good in the driver’s seat of a red SUV honking her horn as two immigration officers approached the vehicle. Despite attempts to communicate with her, one of the officers fired shots at Renee Good, ultimately leading to her death.

The lawsuit filed against the United States seeks damages for Renee Good’s wrongful death and the emotional distress suffered by her loved ones. It also accuses the immigration officer, Jonathan Ross, of intentional infliction of emotional distress. The second lawsuit alleges a conspiracy to violate civil rights and demands a jury trial. The legal action implicates several individuals, including Ross, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security head Kristi Noem, and others, in a coordinated effort to target specific ethnic communities with aggressive enforcement tactics.

The tragic incident involving Renee Good and another individual, Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis sparked national outrage and calls for reforms in immigration enforcement practices. The lawsuits aim to hold accountable those responsible for the wrongful death of Renee Good and seek justice for her family. The legal proceedings shed light on the broader implications of immigration enforcement actions and the need for accountability to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
