The Vancouver Rise have strengthened their squad with the recent acquisition of two defenders. This move comes ahead of a crucial match against the Halifax Tides this Saturday. Chantelle Swaby, previously with Leicester City in the Women’s Super League, and Kaela Hansen, who played for NSL side AFC Toronto, have joined the Rise.
Head coach Anja Heiner-Moller highlighted the valuable attributes both players bring to the team as they strive to position themselves for a playoff spot. Swaby, aged 28, brings a wealth of experience from playing in various leagues globally, showcasing her composure in high-pressure situations.
Hansen, 26, expressed her excitement at returning home to Vancouver, emphasizing the significance of playing in front of a local crowd and reuniting with her family. These signings come after Vancouver bid farewell to Mariah Lee, who retired last month to pursue law studies in New York. Additionally, goalkeeper Kirstin Tynan was loaned to the Tides for the remainder of the season.
As the defending NSL champions, the Rise (5-9-1) are aiming to secure a playoff berth, currently trailing Halifax (6-6-3) by five points. Forward Jessica De Fillippo stressed the importance of this phase of the season, underlining the team’s determination to return to the playoffs and demonstrate their competitiveness until the season’s end.
