“Legendary Italian Fashion Icon Valentino Garavani Dies at 93”

Italian fashion icon Valentino Garavani has passed away at the age of 93, surrounded by his family in Rome, as confirmed by Fondazione Valentino Garavani e Giancarlo Giammetti. Following his demise, it was announced that his body would lie in state at PM23 in Piazza Mignanelli 23 before his funeral at Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Rome.

Valentino, who founded his renowned fashion house in 1959, was one of the most enduring couturiers of the 20th and 21st centuries. His partnership with Giancarlo Giammetti, both in business and romance, lasted for over a decade. Throughout his career, Valentino dressed numerous celebrities including Diana, Princess of Wales, Jennifer Lopez, Joan Collins, Andy Warhol, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer, and Julia Roberts.

The late designer was hailed as “the last maestro” by supermodel Naomi, who praised his creations as exquisite jewels. Notable figures like Oprah Winfrey also lauded Valentino’s work, with Oprah expressing her desire to be buried in one of his gowns. Recent celebrities showcasing his designs include Zendaya and Carey Mulligan, with Valentino having crafted wedding dresses for icons like Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Elizabeth Taylor.

Valentino’s close bond with Jackie Kennedy, which began in 1964, evolved into a lifelong friendship and professional collaboration based on admiration for each other’s style. His clients consistently praised his ability to make women feel beautiful through his designs, with Valentino himself attributing his career choice to a dream of creating sophisticated fashion.

Born in Italy in 1932, Valentino studied fashion in Paris before launching his own label in Rome. Alongside Giancarlo Giammetti, he transformed Valentino SpA into a globally recognized brand, known for his iconic red dresses that defined elegance and sophistication. The brand gained immense popularity after Jackie Kennedy wore his designs following her husband’s tragic assassination.

The fashion world mourned Valentino’s passing, with many expressing condolences on social media. Tributes poured in, celebrating his legendary status and contributions to the industry. Anna Wintour of Vogue fondly remembered Valentino’s delight in fashion moments and his exceptional character, highlighting his impeccable manners and enduring influence on the fashion world.
