New images have captured global support for Iranian protesters as they rally against Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s oppressive regime. The Supreme Leader has violently suppressed citizens, with reports suggesting up to 2,500 deaths as demonstrators express anger over economic hardships. Demonstrations in Iran have garnered international solidarity, with people in the UK, Korea, Israel, Germany, Turkey, and other countries demanding an end to the violence.
Photographs depict protesters in various nations burning images of the Ayatollah and donning Iran’s pre-revolution “Lion and Sun” flag colors. Some have raised the flag alongside pictures of exiled crown prince Reza Pahlavi, son of the former Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. Reza Pahlavi, living in the US for years, is being considered as a potential replacement for the current regime.
In Romania, demonstrators displayed a picture of Reza Pahlavi, while protesters in Germany wore the colors of Iran’s former flag. Paris protesters showcased signs supporting Reza Pahlavi, and in Switzerland, some burned photos of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Shiite Muslims in Pakistan protested against the Iranian government, and in Chile, residents demonstrated outside Iran’s embassy in Santiago. A large Persian flag was laid outside the White House in Washington, and protesters gathered in Seoul outside the Iranian Embassy. Londoners also staged protests near the Houses of Parliament.
