“First Lady of Racing Rachael Blackmore Expecting First Child”

Retired racing icon Rachael Blackmore has revealed that she is pregnant with her first child alongside fellow jockey Brian Hayes. The couple recently exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in West Cork on January 5, culminating a friendship of over a decade.

Rachael took to her Instagram story to share the exciting news, featuring a picture of her Volvo car with a baby pram in the trunk, playfully captioned “Love driving the Volvo XC60 BA. Boot contents looking a little bit different now.” The 36-year-old retired from her successful horse racing career last year, making history as the first woman jockey to win the Grand National and claiming the title of top jockey at Cheltenham.

Originally from Tipperary, Rachael accumulated an impressive 575 wins during her professional racing tenure.

In May of last year, the accomplished rider announced her retirement following a remarkable career that included a triumphant partnership with Minella Times at Aintree in 2021.

Her accolades also include being the leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival in 2021, achieving victories in all five championship contests.

Noteworthy achievements in 2021 include winning the World Sports Star at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. Rachael was honored as the greatest female jump jockey of all time by Cheltenham racecourse, earning a spot in the track’s hall of fame.

Rachael and Brian have been acquainted for more than ten years, initially meeting at a stable in Co Carlow during the early stages of their careers. They previously resided together with their mutual friend Patrick Mullins, son of renowned jump trainer Willie Mullins.

Despite their racing backgrounds, Rachael disclosed in 2021 that racing discussions rarely take place in their jockey-dominant household.

Upon her retirement in May, Rachael acknowledged Brian’s pivotal role in her career, expressing gratitude for his significant contribution.

The couple has been sighted together at various events, including Wimbledon, music festivals, and vacations.

Brian, aged 34, has secured one Cheltenham Festival win over his 17-year career, riding for notable figures such as Willie Mullins.
