“Team GB Eyes Record Medal Haul at Milano Cortina 2026”

Team GB aims for its most successful Winter Olympics at the upcoming Milano Cortina Games. UK Sport projects between four to eight medals for the British team in northern Italy, surpassing their previous best performances at Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018.

The optimism arises from the strong lineup of Team GB athletes heading to Italy, including world champions, X Games gold medallists, and World Cup podium finishers. The winter athletes from Britain had a remarkable 2024/25 season, securing nine World Championship medals across various sports.

British skiers and snowboarders have achieved significant successes in Olympic events, with 28 major podium finishes, three Crystal Globes, and a World Championship title by Zoe Atkin. Chef de mission Eve Muirhead, a curling gold medalist in 2022, emphasized the meticulous preparations and the potential within the team to challenge the status quo in 2026.

The top contenders for medals in Italy include Weston, a double men’s skeleton world champion, Muir, a two-time World Cup gold medallist in snowboarding, Brookes, the youngest ever snowboarding world champion, Atkin, the current halfpipe world champion, and Bankes, a two-time Crystal Globe winner in snowboarding.

Fear and Gibson, a figure-skating duo, aim to secure Britain’s first Olympic figure skating medal since 1994. British curlers led by Bruce Mouat are expected to excel following their silver medal in 2022 and subsequent world championships.

The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games will take place from February 6-22, with fans able to watch over 850 hours of live action on discovery+ via Prime Video. The £3.99 discovery+ Entertainment subscription offers access to TNT Sports 2 for continuous Olympic coverage during the games.
