Luke Littler, at 19 years old, emerged victorious in the World Masters, prompting praise from fellow player Luke Humphries who dubbed him as “the greatest darts player ever.” Littler’s triumph came after defeating Humphries 6-5 in a thrilling match in Milton Keynes, where he showcased exceptional skill, recording a 104.72 average and hitting 13 maximum scores.
This victory marked Littler’s 11th major PDC title, earning him a substantial £100,000 prize. His path to the title included a dominant performance against Josh Rock in the quarter-finals and a hard-fought 5-4 win over Gerwyn Price in the semi-final to secure a spot in the final showdown.
Despite his young age, Littler has already cemented his name in darts history, ranking as the third most successful player alongside James Wade, trailing only behind Michael van Gerwen (48 titles) and Phil Taylor (79 titles).
With just the European Championship title left to complete his collection of PDC ranked titles, Littler’s success continues to grow. Humphries acknowledged Littler’s talent by bestowing upon him the title of a major champion, highlighting his ability to perform under pressure and maintain composure throughout the game.
In a closely contested final where Humphries initially led 5-4, Littler demonstrated resilience and determination, rallying back to secure victory. Reflecting on his win, Littler expressed satisfaction with his focused mindset and the hard work put into each game. His exceptional performance, including a 153 checkout and two 121 finishes, entertained the audience at Arena MK.
While Humphries expressed disappointment at not winning, he acknowledged the positives from the tournament, emphasizing the strength of his game. Both Littler and Humphries continue to dominate the sport, with Littler having the upper hand in recent TV final encounters.
