“Starmer Clashes with Tories Over Doctors’ Strikes”

Keir Starmer rebukes the Conservative Party during Prime Minister’s Questions for criticizing the government’s handling of doctors’ strikes. In response to the Prime Minister’s condemnation of the recent five-day strike by NHS resident doctors as “irresponsible,” Starmer pointed out the Tories’ past record of overseeing significant strike days and rejected their attempts to lecture him on the matter.

During the session, the Prime Minister also directed a Christmas joke towards Reform UK, poking fun at the party’s former leader in Wales for allegedly accepting Russian bribes. Starmer humorously advised members of Reform UK to report any mysterious gift-bearing individuals from the East to the authorities.

In a separate exchange, SNP leader Stephen Flynn extended Christmas greetings to the PM and inquired about his plans for the holiday season in Downing Street. Starmer responded by suggesting that Flynn should focus on welcoming investment into Grangemouth and criticized the SNP leader for not mentioning it.

The government recently unveiled a £150 million support package to safeguard 500 jobs at the Grangemouth ethylene plant near Falkirk. In another development, Starmer issued an ultimatum to former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, urging him to fulfill his promise of donating £2.5 billion from the club’s sale to support Ukraine. Failure to comply may result in legal action by the UK Government against the Russian billionaire.

Furthermore, the UK is set to rejoin the EU’s student exchange program, Erasmus, allowing British students to study at European universities for the first time since Brexit. This move is expected to benefit over 100,000 individuals in the UK in the scheme’s inaugural year of operation.

In related news, thousands of resident doctors have initiated a five-day strike after the British Medical Association rejected the government’s latest offer. The industrial action, triggered by a dispute over pay and job security, has led to the potential cancellation of non-urgent appointments amid a surge in flu cases across hospitals in England.

The Prime Minister dismissed calls from Kemi Badenoch to ban doctor strikes, highlighting that the Conservatives had a history of significant industrial action during their tenure. Starmer also characterized the resident doctors’ walkout as irresponsible and urged medical staff not to abandon their patients.
