Glenn McGrath Dropped as ABC Commentator, Joins BBC

Glenn McGrath, a cricket icon from Australia, has been removed as a commentator by host broadcaster ABC due to his association with a betting company. Known as one of the best fast bowlers in history, McGrath has been a prominent figure during the Ashes matches in recent times.

Having claimed 563 wickets in 124 Test matches for Australia, the 55-year-old was a formidable opponent for England in the Ashes series. Despite his successful track record, McGrath will no longer serve as a pundit and commentator for ABC, although he will continue his role on BBC Test Match Special.

ABC confirmed the decision in a statement to the Guardian, citing McGrath’s upcoming collaboration with Bet365 as the reason for the separation. This move follows a similar action taken against former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson in the past for a comparable reason.

Despite the setback with ABC, McGrath will play a significant role in the BBC’s coverage of the Ashes, featuring in live radio commentary and highlights alongside a lineup of renowned cricket personalities. In a bold prediction, McGrath anticipates a dominant 5-0 victory for Australia in the upcoming series, highlighting the formidable Australian team and England’s challenging history in Australian test matches.
