Verstappen Eyes Number Change to Three for 2026

Max Verstappen has expressed his wish to change his race number to three for the 2026 season if he loses his F1 title and is no longer entitled to use number one on his Red Bull car. Initially, the 28-year-old used number 33 when he joined the sport, a number closely associated with him in racing circles. However, he had to settle for this number as his future teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, had already claimed number three for himself.

After winning his first world championship in 2021, Verstappen switched to number one, a number reserved for defending champions. With the 2025 title likely going to either Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri, Verstappen faces a decision. At the Las Vegas Grand Prix, he confirmed his intention to adopt number three from 2026 onwards, pending approval from the FIA and Ricciardo. Ricciardo retired from motorsport earlier this year after leaving Racing Bulls during the 2024 season.

Verstappen humorously mentioned his preference for number 69 but acknowledged the practical challenges. He also expressed his fondness for number three, although he finds several other numbers appealing. Fortunately, Ricciardo is expected to support Verstappen’s number change, as the two maintain a strong friendship despite Ricciardo’s transition to Renault and departure from open-wheel motorsport.

Sky has enhanced its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle to include HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+, and Hayu, along with 135 channels and comprehensive coverage of Formula 1. The broadcasting network covers all practice sessions, qualifiers, and races throughout the season, as well as exclusive content on the Premier League, EFL, darts, and golf.

In a heartfelt letter to fans, Ricciardo announced his partnership with Ford as a Global Ford Racing Ambassador, emphasizing his enduring passion for motorsports and the joy it brings. Reflecting on his retirement decision, he highlighted the importance of staying connected to the racing world in an authentic way and cherishing the fun and happiness racing has brought him over the years.
