“PayPal Launches Debit, Credit Cards & Loyalty Program”

PayPal is set to introduce its inaugural debit and credit cards, along with a fresh loyalty program. These cards will be offered in both physical and digital formats, allowing consumers to utilize their PayPal wallet for in-store transactions.

The new PayPal debit card will be directly linked to your PayPal wallet and one of your bank accounts. If your PayPal wallet lacks funds, the purchase amount will be deducted from your bank account. This debit card by PayPal can be used globally without any transaction fees, while the PayPal credit card is accepted wherever Mastercard is.

Simultaneously, PayPal is launching its new loyalty scheme today, enabling customers to earn points on both online and offline purchases. Customers will earn one point for every £10 spent, and when they accumulate 1,000 points, they receive a £10 credit to spend via their PayPal account. Moreover, shoppers using the PayPal debit card earn ten points for every £10 spent.

The loyalty scheme consists of three tiers: Blue, Gold, and Black. Gold and Black tier members enjoy points valued up to 50% more at checkout, in addition to VIP experiences and other benefits. The scheme is compatible with other loyalty programs, allowing customers to stack and earn PayPal+ points on top of existing loyalty points, with sign-up for PayPal+ being free.

Diego Scotti, General Manager of PayPal’s Consumer Group, expressed enthusiasm about this new phase for PayPal in the UK. He highlighted the enhanced user experience and value proposition, emphasizing the benefits of PayPal+ in terms of rewards and convenience. Tamer El‑Emary, General Manager of PayPal UK, reinforced the company’s commitment to enhancing the customer experience and bridging online and in-store payments seamlessly through PayPal+.
