A finalist from the popular TV show “Strictly Come Dancing” had to be taken to the hospital following a car accident that could have had serious consequences. John Whaite, the winner of “The Great British Bake Off” and a contestant on the 2021 season of the dance competition, shared on Instagram the details of the incident that occurred on Wednesday.
He recounted how he was hit by a car the previous night, causing damage to the vehicle and leaving him on the road before a kind stranger came to his aid. Doctors informed him that his muscular build likely saved him from a fatal outcome, emphasizing the importance of strength and caution while crossing the road.
Despite the scare, John reassured his followers that he underwent medical checks and was deemed okay. He humorously added that his sexual orientation remained unchanged, further clarifying his use of the word “speeding” in a metaphorical context.
John made headlines for being part of the historic same-sex couple on the 19th season of “Strictly Come Dancing,” where he and his partner, Johannes Radebe, finished as runners-up. His rise to fame began on “The Great British Bake Off,” where he emerged victorious despite facing a finger injury during the competition.
Outside of television, John continues to pursue his passion for baking and resides in Leeds with his spouse, Paul Atkins. Reflecting on his life, he expressed pride in the enduring relationship he shares with his husband.
