A prominent figure from Reform UK is facing backlash for making controversial remarks suggesting individuals of different faiths should consume bacon to demonstrate their commitment to Christianity.
Chris Parry, who is running as the party’s candidate for Hampshire and the Solent mayoral position, shared an article expressing concerns about migrants being baptized in hotel bathtubs to seek asylum. In a comment on the matter, Parry suggested that people of other religions should eat bacon for a month to validate their Christian beliefs.
Additionally, Parry shared an image of a microwave designated for Halal food only, prompting a response from him suggesting sausages should be cooked in it, despite the dietary restrictions of Islamic teachings.
The politician, a former senior Royal Navy officer, further reiterated his stance in November, advocating for Christian converts to consume pork for a month as a proof of their devotion.
The controversy has increased pressure on Nigel Farage to remove Parry from his position within Reform UK, especially following previous controversial statements made by Parry, such as telling David Lammy to return to the Caribbean.
In response to the situation, Anna Turley, Chair of the Labour Party, condemned Parry’s views as unacceptable for someone seeking public office, criticizing Farage for allowing such viewpoints within Reform UK.
Reform UK declined to provide a comment on the matter, as the issue continues to generate significant public scrutiny.
