Donald Trump and his supporters spent a significant amount of time distorting the image of the victim of the Minneapolis shooting, portraying her as a “domestic terrorist.” However, newly released footage has cast doubt on this narrative.
Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, had just dropped off her six-year-old son at school before encountering a group of ICE agents. Tragically, the 37-year-old was shot three times and crashed into a parked vehicle, resulting in her death on Wednesday. Following the incident, Trump’s associates launched an assault on Good’s character, accusing her of using her vehicle as a weapon. JD Vance even labeled her death as a “tragedy of her own making,” a sentiment that has become increasingly common among Trump’s circle.
Despite efforts by the White House to defend the ICE agent involved in the shooting, the agent’s own bodycam footage presented a different perspective. The video, released by online source Alpha News on Friday, captured the ICE agent recording Good’s face and license plate as she interacted with him in a calm and friendly manner.
As the footage continued, Good can be seen moving her car to allow other vehicles to pass while the immigration officers persist in questioning her. The contrast between Good’s composed final words to the officer and the aggressive behavior of the ICE agents became more apparent as they demanded that she exit the vehicle.
The turning point in the video came when Good steered her car to the right, away from the ICE agent rather than towards him. This action was followed by the agent exclaiming “whoa” before firing three shots, leading to Good losing control of her vehicle and crashing into another parked car. In a final disrespectful act towards the victim, the agent was heard insulting her before the tragic incident transpired.
The release of this video has debunked the claims made by Trump’s supporters over the past two days, which sought to undermine the significance of Good’s death and the subsequent protests that erupted in a city still reeling from previous tragic events. The world was outraged following the murder of African American man George Floyd by white police officer Derek Chauvin in Minneapolis in 2020.
In another incident, Melissa Hortman, a Minnesota lawmaker, and her husband were fatally shot at their Minneapolis residence in June, in what authorities described as a politically motivated attack. President Trump has been vocal in his criticism of Democratic strongholds like Minneapolis, but the video evidence from this recent episode speaks louder than his rhetoric.
During a press conference, JD Vance continued to dispute the reporting on Good’s death, alleging that she intentionally aimed at the ICE agent and tried to run him over. He emphasized that while her death was tragic, it was a consequence of her own actions and the influence of radical elements on the far left. Trump also defended the ICE agent’s actions, claiming that Good behaved inappropriately and deliberately struck him with her vehicle.
Described as an award-winning poet originally from Colorado Springs, Good was remembered by her first husband, who preferred to remain anonymous, as a devoted Christian who had participated in youth missions in Northern Ireland. Her wife, Rebecca Good, paid a heartfelt tribute, emphasizing Good’s loving and joyful nature.
While authorities sought to shield the ICE agent involved in the shooting, the release of the officer’s own footage has contradicted their narrative. Loved ones have painted Good as a compassionate and family-oriented Christian, a stark contrast to the portrayal attempted by certain political figures who have downplayed the tragic death of a young mother.
