O2 has officially announced that numerous customers are receiving a complimentary rapid upgrade. This enhancement is introducing faster 5G+ services to individuals throughout the UK, offering improved mobile connectivity and significantly quicker download speeds. O2 guarantees a 50% increase in performance compared to the previous 4G network.
Aside from speed and reliability improvements, users can also expect extended battery life as devices consume less power by no longer requiring simultaneous connections to both 4G and 5G networks. Unlike traditional 5G, which relies on 4G support, the new 5G+ technology eliminates this need.
The upgrade is currently being rolled out to users equipped with 5G+ compatible devices and SIM cards, with over 700 towns and cities already activated.
Christian Hindennach, the Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, highlighted the significance of the 5G+ service expansion, stating, “Our 5G+ service is now accessible to millions of customers across the UK, available to all O2 users on any plan, unlike other providers. This upgrade enhances performance in crowded areas, such as major venues, benefiting both residents and visitors. It reflects Virgin Media O2’s dedication to improving network quality and providing a more dependable user experience. We are investing £2 million daily to assist customers in embracing upcoming mobile innovations.”
