Iranian state television has broadcast a menacing threat against President Donald Trump following his call for making Iran great again. The broadcast included an image of Trump with a bloodied ear, accompanied by a message warning that the next attempt on his life would not fail.
In response, Trump mentioned that he had received information indicating a halt in planned executions in Iran, despite reports of ongoing brutal crackdowns on protesters by the Tehran government. The president had previously expressed support for Iranians protesting against their government, assuring them that assistance was forthcoming.
According to activists, between 2,500 and 3,000 people have been killed in Iran since protests erupted over two weeks ago. Iran’s justice chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei, urged swift action to punish over 18,000 detained individuals through expedited trials and executions.
Families have decried the rapid sentencing of their loved ones, including Erfan Soltani, who faced imminent hanging for participating in anti-government demonstrations. Erfan, from Fardis near Tehran, was charged with a capital offense of “waging war against God” under Iranian law.
In response to escalating tensions, Britain decided to close its embassy in Iran and withdraw non-essential diplomats due to security concerns. The British government cautioned its citizens against traveling to Iran and stated that embassy operations would continue remotely.
The latest developments underscore the growing unrest in Iran and the international community’s response to the volatile situation.
