“Starmer Collaborates with Zelensky Ahead of Trump Talks”

Keir Starmer engaged in discussions with Volodymyr Zelensky today as the Ukrainian leader geared up for crucial in-person talks with Donald Trump. President Trump and Mr. Zelensky are set to address the nearly four-year conflict between Moscow and Kyiv at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Ahead of the meeting, President Trump mentioned on Truth Social about his productive call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

As Mr. Zelensky flew into Florida, he conversed with Mr. Starmer, who has been collaborating with European allies for a Coalition of the Willing. This coalition aims to oversee any peace agreement made between Moscow and Kyiv. Expressing gratitude to Keir, Ukraine’s leader shared, “Thank you, Keir, for the continuous coordination! I began my day in Florida with an extensive phone conversation with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.”

He further stated, “We covered the preparations for the meeting with President Trump, along with our engagements with European partners. I updated him on the frontline situation and the impacts of Russian attacks. The United Kingdom’s support is highly valued. We will maintain communication!” A spokesperson from Downing Street emphasized the Prime Minister’s conversation with President Zelenskyy, highlighting the UK’s strong support for Ukraine and its commitment to achieving a fair and enduring peace. Both leaders condemned Russia’s aggressive invasion and recent assault on Kyiv.

Mr. Zelensky, after engaging in talks with European leaders, emphasized the potential for significant decisions before the New Year. He urged Ukraine’s allies to continue pressuring Russia to face the consequences of their aggression amid ongoing attacks. Detailing the Kremlin’s recent military actions, he highlighted multiple attacks targeting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.

Despite missile and drone strikes in Kyiv, Mr. Zelensky’s focus shifted to his discussions with President Trump, where they planned to address a 20-point proposal to resolve the conflict. The peace plan, which Mr. Zelensky described as almost 90% complete, includes economic agreements and territorial issues. The draft also involves a US commitment akin to NATO’s Article 5 for ensuring a collective military response to any attack on Ukraine. However, sensitive details, particularly regarding territorial concessions, remain to be finalized during their discussions.
