A resident of Greenland has issued a stark warning to the UK in support of Trump’s push for a US acquisition of the Danish territory, asserting that the nation is teetering on the edge of internal conflict.
Jorgen Boassen, a 51-year-old entrepreneur in the construction industry and self-proclaimed “revolutionary,” is among a small group advocating for Greenland to become American territory.
Boassen fervently promotes the “Make Greenland American” campaign but laments the personal toll it has taken on his relationships, leading to the breakdown of his engagement and connection with his daughter.
Despite the US President’s assertion that the transfer would enhance security and be straightforward for his country, it has been met with strong opposition. Greenland’s resolute Prime Minister has condemned the American leader for employing “bullying tactics.”
With a population of under 60,000, Greenland is an autonomous region under Denmark’s sovereignty, holding strategic significance for NATO and the EU. However, internal tensions are escalating. Boassen reveals that his family disapproves of his pro-US advocacy, alleging that his partner was dismissed from her long-standing position at Air Greenland, a Danish airline, shortly after he participated in MAGA events commemorating Trump’s inauguration in Washington.
Boassen describes a prevailing atmosphere of fear, with families fractured and altercations erupting in local establishments. He disclosed, “My construction business has shuttered due to being ostracized, and similar repercussions are befalling other ventures that express support for Trump. I am presently staying in Copenhagen as people back home fear associating with me. This is the current climate in Greenland. Those who desire American governance are hesitant to speak out. There is palpable fear.”
Expressing concern about the potential for civil strife, Boassen emphasized the intense tension, pointing out, “The Danes control 95 percent of all businesses here and are targeting individuals like me who aspire to collaborate with America.”
Forewarning of possible violence, he highlighted the prevalence of firearms, noting that virtually every household possesses a gun for hunting. He issued a direct caution to the Prime Minister, stating, “To the EU and the UK – to Sir Keir Starmer – exercise caution before intervening and understand the reality about Denmark: they are suppressing our populace.”
While Denmark and Greenland maintain that the island is not up for sale, the dispute has strained US-European relations, with Denmark’s Prime Minister cautioning that a US acquisition could jeopardize NATO’s future.
Sir Keir Starmer conveyed his stance on Greenland during a conversation with Donald Trump on Wednesday evening, as stated by Downing Street. The Prime Minister has consistently advocated for Greenland and Denmark to independently determine the territory’s fate, reiterating this position earlier in the day during parliamentary proceedings.
