“Gas Pipe Damage Plunges Devon Homes Into Cold Crisis”

Homes in Devon are facing a severe cold spell lasting “a few days” following damage to a gas pipe by an unknown party.

Numerous properties in Devon have been left without gas due to apparent accidental damage to a gas pipe, affecting areas like Salcombe, Kingsbridge, and Malborough where temperatures are forecasted to drop below freezing overnight.

As temperatures remain cold, an amber cold-health alert is active in Devon and throughout England, leading Decon County Council to caution residents about icy conditions on roads and pathways.

The gas operator, Wales and West Utilities (WWU), stated that the exact number of affected properties is unknown. They advised individuals to check on vulnerable residents in these properties during the gas outage.

WWU mentioned that repairs have commenced on the gas pipe but warned that gas supplies may be disrupted for several days. Efforts are being made to assist Priority Services Register customers with alternative heating and cooking solutions.

The operator urged people to look out for vulnerable individuals until the situation is resolved and indicated collaboration with local authorities to provide additional support to affected residents.

Businesses and families have been impacted by the gas outage, with the Maha-Bharat curry house expressing regret for the inconvenience caused by their closure due to the gas issue.

The curry house informed customers of their closure in Kingsbridge, Salcombe, and Marlborough due to the gas problem, with refunds issued for online orders. They encouraged those with concerns to reach out for assistance.
