Samsung Discontinues Support for Galaxy S21 Series

Samsung Galaxy smartphone owners should take note of recent developments regarding software support for certain models. Samsung has officially discontinued support for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus, and Galaxy S21 Ultra, meaning these devices will no longer receive essential software updates. This change was highlighted by a recent update on Samsung’s security patch page, where these models were removed from the list of supported devices. While major Android updates are typically released annually, monthly or quarterly security patches are crucial for ongoing protection against vulnerabilities and data breaches. With the discontinuation of updates for the S21 series, users may want to consider upgrading for enhanced security.

When the Galaxy S21 series was launched, Samsung had committed to providing four years of Android updates and five years of security updates. As of 2026, these commitments have expired. In contrast, newer Galaxy S models like the latest Galaxy S25 now come with extended support of seven years for both Android and security updates, offering users a longer device lifespan.

It is important to mention that the Galaxy S21 FE is still receiving quarterly security updates and is expected to continue receiving support for at least another year. For users contemplating an upgrade, it might be prudent to wait a bit longer, as Samsung is anticipated to unveil the Galaxy S26 series later this month. Speculations suggest that the new series, potentially launching on February 25, will introduce enhancements such as a faster processor, improved camera capabilities, enhanced design, and better battery performance.
